With a base in Porto for the whole month of November 2016, the Travel Team explored the city and surrounding sights such as UNESCO World Heritage recognised Douro Valley, Guimaraes – the birthplace of Portugal and Braga – city of archbishops.

Many hilltops in Portugal and other parts of Europe have been sites of religious devotion since antiquity, and it is possible that the Bom Jesus hill, near Braga, was one of these. However, the first indication of a chapel over the hill dates from 1373
