Winter skies of Algarve

When full-time nomad Jocelyn Garwood found herself in the beautiful Algarve in wintertime, she was fascinated with the skyscapes of sunrise and sunset. The beaches of Algarve is a perfect to witness both phenomena, as you have unobstructed views to the south.

Within minutes, the sky changes and reveals different colours, and Jocelyn shows us with her photos how nature is so beautiful it almost makes a mockery of art.

There are just so many incredibly beautiful beaches in Algarve that we quickly gave up on the idea to make a Top10 list. We simply couldn’t decide on only 10.

Schist Villages of Central Portugal

There are certain types of towns that just FIT in their landscape, both historically, culturally and physically. Whether it’s the Pueblos Blancos of Andalucia, the Trulli of Puglia or the lime washed stone houses of Greece, we instantly understand the connection to the land, the sea, the past.

The Schist Villages in Central Portugal have that transcendent connection to their landscape and past. Long have they been neglected and forgotten, but that is luckily beginning to change. Add to this a verdant, mountainous landscape, medieval castles and a fascinating history – and you’ve got all the right reasons to visit!

Roman Ruins, Megaliths & Bones – It’s Évora!

Visiting Évora and the surrounding area in central Portugal is like a great school field trip that lasts for days. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the culture and history. Go slowly and savour this special place.

Visiting a place where the No1 tourist attraction is bones and skulls had me a little uneasy. Old graveyards are always kind of fun with their big gravestones and crypts, but you don’t usually see any remains of humans. This graveyard was different.

Another Beautiful Hiking Trail in Algarve

The coastal hiking path “Trail of the Headlands” was inaugurated in 2018. Just like its sister trail; The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, this route offers amazing views of the unique seascape in southern Portugal.

It’s our 2nd favourite hike in Algarve and will bring you close to dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches and natural sculptures. It may be a stretch to declare it a walk on a cloud, but it’ll definitely get you closer to the heavens.

The Most Beautiful Hiking Trail in Algarve

The Seven Hanging Valleys Hiking Trail is probably the most beautiful hiking path in Algarve – and even in all of Europe, according to European Best Destinations.

The area is emblematic of the amazing seascape of Algarve, so if you’ve only got time for one, great hike while you’re in the Algarve, this should be it!

Caves, Waterfalls and Walks in Portugal

It was the desire to visit lesser known places that saw traveller and freelance writer Justin Stevens enter the sleepy town of Mira de Aire, which borders the Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros. Although only an hour north of Lisbon, there are no tourist throngs to contend with. Follow Justin on his journey above and below the National Park.
