Dijon – much more than mustard

We arrived in Dijon yesterday in time for the festivities of Bastille Day. Despite it being a holiday with offices and most shops closed, a small number of shops tempted the by-passers with summer sale prices and all bars and cafes were open. And well visited!

Passing time before dinner, people flocked to the cafes, enjoying an aperitif before the meal. Looking at other people and being looked at.

We were lucky to get a table in a small, quiet restaurant and enjoyed lamb chops and salade perigourdine, a salad with smoked duck and foie gras. Thank god for politically incorrect food. To wash down the slight guilt towards the poor ducks; a good, red burgundy.

Later, we joyned the Dijonnais for the big fireworks show at the lake. More than an hour of magic in the sky and friendly Frenchmen by our side.
